Carla Hall Gets TV Gig; Freddy’s Lobster & Clams Coming to Bethesda

It didn’t take long for Top Chef fan-favorite and local chef Carla Hall to bring her trademark “Hootie Hoo” back to the small screen. ABC announced Thursday that Hall will be among the hosts on “The Chew”, a new food-themed television show that will premiere this September. Hall, who runs food company Alchemy by Carla Hall, will be joined by co-hosts Mario Batali (Babbo, Del Posto, Osteria Mozza, Eataly, etc.), Cleveland-based Iron Chef Michael Symon (Lola), nutrition expert Daphne Oz and TLC veteran Clinton Kelly. First reported by the Washington Business Journal.

Fans of wine bar and American bistro Grapeseed will soon have a fishy new eating option in Bethesda when Freddy’s Lobster & Clams opens in early May. The more casual Freddy’s will pay tribute to the New England fish shacks that chef-owner Jeff Heineman visited with his grandfather, Freddy. Situated next door to Grapeseed, it will offer table service at dinner and counter service at lunch (plus outdoor dining), serving a menu of fin favorites such as lobster rolls, fried clams and fish ‘n’ chips, accompanied by craft brews and wine. (4867 Cordell Ave., Bethesda, MD 20814). First reported by Zagat.com.
