The Huffington Post is reporting that rumors are circulating about Mario Batali’s New York-based gourmet Italian market and eatery opening a location in Washington, DC. The Post interviewed co-owner Joe Bastianich, who said he is eyeing space in D.C. It would require a large lot, considering that Eataly NYC occupies about 40,000 square feet.
For those who have never visited Eataly NYC, it is a pretty incredible place. This full-sized market carries everything from poultry, produce and seafood to imported wines and cheeses, not to mention the fresh-cut pastas that you can buy by the pound (a la deli counter) and the multiple eateries (pizza, sandwiches, etc.) scattered throughout.
