Iron Horse: Rocket Bar, Upgraded

I wouldn’t exactly call Iron Horse mind blowing, and I personally prefer Redline as far as sportsbars go, but the price point and vibe at Iron Horse is definitely a much-needed addition to the area. Rocket bar is the other alternative, but it feels like a dungeon and smells like pee and vomit. I’m not down with that.

There’s no food at Iron Horse (and that’s probably a good thing), but what it lacks in a menu it makes up for in happy hour specials, which for the most part are non-existent in the Chinatown neighborhood. All drafts are $2 off from 4 to 8 PM all week long. That’s a pretty solid happy hour considering, most places in Chinatown consider a happy hour a $6 Amstel Light. I’ll take a $3 Bud Light any day of the week.

The crowd skews young, and it can get crowded, but it’s a big-enough spot that you don’t feel cramped. Skee ball and shufflepuck are great to have on hand if you just feel like pounding beers and hanging out. There are enough TVs in the bar to catch a game, but I wouldn’t exactly call it prime viewing (as compared to Redline). But it’s still a great bar to hit up for happy hour.
