Late-Night Spot from Top Chef Alum Coming Soon

Is it me, or does downtown DC need more good bars for a nightcap? And I’m not talking about neon-lit nightclubs with traces of white powder on the floor, nor Clyde’s (although it is reliable, there are only so many times a week one can navigate the crowd of wasted Caps fans and weird singles). Where’s a place you can go to for a beer and a bite before hitting the hay?

In about a month, Graffiato (Italian for “having etched permanently”) will become the new hotspot. With Top Chef alum Mike Isabella at the helm (supported by talented executive sous chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley), it promises to be olive-tomato-garlic good. Yes, another Italian place, but these folks are going for casual: think small plates and wood-fired pizzas. Most importantly, the bar will stay open late. Because of the yawning lack of quality late-night places, Graffiato (at 707 6th St., NW) will represent a welcome addition to Penn Quarter.

The expected opening is scheduled for late May. Can’t wait!
