When it comes to dining out, sometimes simple and uncomplicated fit the bill – as long as the food is still tasty and the atmosphere still pleasant. If you’re looking for a good time at a chill neighborhood spot, while not having to break your piggy bank open to pay for the meal, check out Stoney’s in the Logan Circle neighborhood.
Full disclosure: The food is definitely not spectacular. But it’s inexpensive and certainly does the trick.
If you like – or, in my case, love – grilled cheese sandwiches, you absolutely, positively have to try the one at Stoney’s. It’s to die for (and, as icing on the cake, it’s only six bucks). If you’re feeling adventurous, you can get a grilled ham and cheese or the super grilled cheese, which comes with bacon, onions and tomato.
This sandwich – along with a side of yummy fries – is not for the calorie counters out there, but it’s a delight to the stomach.
There are plenty of other fan favorites to choose from at Stoney’s, whether it’s one of the many burgers or chicken sandwiches topped with a feast of different items. The blackened tuna, crabcake and salmon BLT (my personal favorite) are also delicious, and all under $12. You can’t beat that.
Stoney’s has several TVs and a decent bar section in addition to the main dining area. On weekend nights, it gets pretty crowded and loud, but during the week it’s a calmer scene. On top of that, the beer selection is ample (and I “heart” beer).
The staff at Stoney’s is friendly, as are the people who dine there (minus some of the young, just-out-of-college frat boys who drink way too much and get reckless). I ask you: What’s better than grilled cheese sandwiches, fries, a few beers and some sports to watch, all at a reasonable price?
I can’t think of much.
